"Mamnik" and "Wolf Tales" by Vasil Popov

Cheater

Unusual things are happening in the village of Vrakola, near Trun—several people have been killed in a most bizarre manner, while others wake up with strange marks on their bodies. It is as if an inhuman evil hangs over the village.

Emil, a resident of a nursing home, teams up with border police officer Bozhana Gorneva to investigate the strange occurrences, only to stumble upon mysteries buried in the past and a monster straight out of Bulgarian folklore. In their battle against evil, they will be aided by a resurrected dead man who has unfinished business in this world…

Wolf Tales

The collection *Wolf Tales* reveals the wild Balkan spirit that inhabits the Trun region, where history and folklore, truth and legend, love and hate intertwine. Blinded by their ambitions and longings for love, justice, and freedom, the stories„ characters find themselves faced with the choice of setting aside their own desires and remaining human, or ceasing to be themselves so as to become wolves.

Because in turbulent times, such as those in Kardzhali, it is not only heroes who are born. Beasts are born as well.

Vasil Popov is the author of short stories and novels based on Bulgarian myths and legends.
