Wood in the House

The new novel by the most read and translated contemporary Czech writer Alena Mornscheinova „Forest in the House“ will immerse you in its heavy atmosphere with its accurate depiction of the human psyche. Mornstein once again proves her talent for telling compellingly strong, emotionally intense stories, uncovering family secrets and exploring how deeply buried they can be before they surface.

„Forest in the house“ is also a book about how the past can forever dengose someone's life. It is the story of the crippled childhood of a sensitive, alert girl growing up without love in a bleak big house at the edge of the village. An unwanted child who is uncared for by her mother, the man she thought was her father leaves the family and the grandmother brings her up strictly and without love. The protagonist tries to make sense of a world that rejects her, but the more she learns, the more she realizes that sometimes the truth is more terrifying than the worst nightmare, much darker than she could have ever imagined.
