The Girls from the Marsh

Mississippi of the 1920s, since the time of the Dry Regime. Two girls united by a terrible secret that could cost them their lives. Two girls ready to fight the trials fate throws at them and win better days for themselves and their loved ones.

Eida has promised herself never to return to the moor, to her father, a hunter and smuggler of liquor, and the endless humiliations he subjects her to. But after her escape to Baton Rouge, where she briefly discovers another, more beautiful life, she finds herself compelled to return, even though she knows she will have to pay a heavy price. Matilda, daughter of a sharecropper, tries to protect her family from the cruelty and arbitrariness of the people on whom it depends, and dreams of going to the North, to a more dignified life.

By the will of circumstances the ways of Eida and Matilda intersect. Will the two survive in this world of injustice, moral corruption and venality? A book about two strong women and the power of dreams, friendship, loyalty and retribution.
