Burov and his daughter

Father and daughter: Atanas Burov and Nedyalka (Beba) Burova.

He—a banker, politician, diplomat, national bridge champion, and a favorite of both beautiful women and the common people. She—the family’s darling, „Daddy’s little boy in a lace dress.“.

He—educated in Paris and Geneva, fluent in several European languages. She—a mediocre graduate of the American College in Simeonovo.

All his life he made money, organized parties, and published newspapers, and from the podium of the League of Nations he managed to save the collapsed economy of war-torn Bulgaria, while Beba, devoted to tennis, swimming, and nature, zooms along the empty Bulgarian highways in her white Mercedes.

After the September 9 coup, Burov was sentenced to twenty years in prison. His daughter, meanwhile, became an agent for the secret services.

He died in prison, and she died in her cozy home at the foot of Vitosha Mountain. His descendants erected a monument to him, and he remains forever in the memory of the people, while she remains forever in the archives of the State Security.
