The Geisha's Smile

Madame Butterfly, Cho-cho-san this is the most popular image of the geisha for the European. The Japanese will probably always smile condescendingly when the Westerner sees only her fancy hairstyle, her elegant kimono, her heavy make-up and her silky gait.

Never mind that many Japanese, especially of the post-war generation, haven't seen a living geisha either. They have the ancient culture, the tradition, the refined criteria of beauty. That is why they know that this fragile, refined, highly educated, delicate, artistic woman, a true work of art, has been practicing her profession for 250 years in order to „fulfill“ men's dreams of everything (just not their sexual desires) that they do not find in the grey everyday life either at work or at home. For a few hours, she brings them into paradise. Until next time, if they can pay her fantastically high fee.
