The Little Liar

Mitch Albom, one of the most widely read and beloved contemporary American writers, returns with his most important novel yet, an unforgettable story of truth and lies set against the backdrop of the Holocaust.

Eleven-year-old Nico Crispis has never lied. When the Nazis invaded his home in Thessaloniki, Greece, the boy was found by a German officer who offered him the opportunity to save his family. All Nico has to do is convince his fellow Greek Jews to board the trains headed „north,“ where security and new jobs supposedly await. Without suspecting how cruel this deception is, the innocent Nico convinces the passengers on the platform every day. But when the last train is loaded, the boy sees that his family has been forced into a horse-drawn carriage, and only then does he realise that he has helped to send those dearest to him to certain doom at Auschwitz.

Nico saves himself, but from that day on he never utters a single truth again.

В „The Little Liar“ Mitch Albom examines the consequences of delusion and self-deception, of integrity and dishonor, interweaving the stories of Nico, who dreams of forgiveness, his older brother Sebastian, who vows revenge, Fanny, the girl who must choose between the two, and Udo Graf, the Nazi officer who changed their lives forever with his lies.
